Homeless & Orphans

The number of orphans worldwide is difficult to find. Estimates range from 50 million to as high as 200 million. Unicef estimates that 143 million children are orphans in the developing world – that’s one in every 13 children. Whatever the statistic – the numbers of children left alone by death or abandonment is staggering. Millions and millions of children are left to fend for themselves. Many end up living on the streets or are forced into slavery. Others find their way to orphanages or are taken in by family members. These children carry a much greater risk of exploitation, abuse and extreme poverty. They live in extreme situations. Extreme response partners with many organizations to help these “invisible” children – to educate, care for them and love them – giving them opportunities to not only better their lives, but become leaders in their communities.

Another 100 million people worldwide are homeless. (Source: United Nations Commission on Human Rights, 2005). Many are refugees – forced to leave their homes and belongings because of political unrest. Others are young men and women forced to live on the streets because of abuse or abandonment. Extreme Response exists to help change the lives of people like these - those with no home, ho help and no hope…
