Extreme Response believes that Education is perhaps the best long-term solution to poverty in the developing world – it is one of the keys to the end of the poverty cycle. Teaching a child (or even an adult) to read and write gives them many life-changing opportunities. Teaching them life skills gives them hope for their future. Teaching them vocational skills gives them an opportunity for income. With education comes increased social skills, verbal/communication skills, problem solving and reasoning skills, and self confidence.
Currently one in six adults is still not literate (two-thirds of them are women). More than 75 million school-age children do not attend school. (UNESCO)
Education can help children from impoverished families break out of poverty and also be less affected by HIV/AIDS and other social injustice.
